Dvorak would love it

"If you love Dvorak--if you love chamber music--you should buy this CD. In this recording the Weilerstein Trio achieves something rare indeed: an ideal fusion of passion and intelligence."
Composers would thank them if they could.

"The Weilerstein Trio...

one might think of the weilerstein trio as an antithesis of prevailing

modern performance practice...

that being one that presents works as "pieces" or "works" in a musical

canon... more specifically, a canon as museum... i personally find

this approach devastating to the state of music- modern and

canonical... music is not for canonization or for museum-like

presentation...

this is the special and unique nature of music... in order to live it

must... well, it must live... the weilerstein trio are among the few

who realize and practice this.. they make music live.... they bring to

live flavors, odors, tastes, colors, emotions.... they humanize

music.

music is often not treated as a living organism or a human thing....

a good analogy would be the monotone recitation of a three-year-old

reading some (florid) poet aloud...flat. The weilersteins give

dignity to music. virgil thompson once wrote that "a special fact

about music writing is that is not only a matter of planning for

execution but also of planning for execution by another, practically

any other, musician." composers would thank them if they could.

their playing is beyond "passionate"... passionate is a lacking modifier.

they are inspired, intellectual, thoughtful, and vibrant. They are

able to emote-but not abusive of that ability. I once had a bassoon

teacher who would complain that my vibrato (when i first started

playing) was "nanny-goat". This is indicative of the state of affairs

in modern music performance: emotion runs unchecked, histrionics

abound!! When one is assaulted by manic emotive phrasings and the

such, the three-year-old monotonous recitation bores one to death.

the weilersteins quite effectively take the middle ground: an approach

fostered by extreme intelligence, sensitivity. and a true sense of

dignity."
Dvorak is for Lovers!

"I am not normally a classical music listener, so I'm not really qualified to do a review. Except I loved this CD so much! I received it for my birthday and was practically ordered to listen to it. Wow. I was transported a century back to a more poetic time...it was liquid emotion. I would say it was perfection but there was such warmth and humanity in the way they rendered Dvorak. Girlfriends, buy this for your boyfriends...you might get lucky!"
