CD Reviews

Pretty good blast from the hard-rock past

"I actually owned both Dust LPs in the 1970s, and I'm very surprised to see them issued in CD form. I was a little afraid that they wouldn't pack the punch they had back then. But I'm glad to say that the music holds up pretty well as primo examples of hard rock/early metal. While I can't see Dust being compared seriously to Black Sabbath, I do think they merited more success. It's too bad the third album was never released. If you don't want to buy the two-album reissue, then buy Hard Attack, as it is the better of the two LPs."

"Two things deserves special attention here. How 80's metal band Manowar sounds like Dust and how Mark Bell (later Mark Ramone) plays well and heavy here if you compare him to further works along with Richard Hell and the Ramones.

Hard Attack steps far forward from the first album, although we have some melodic tunes, theu were very, very heavy and gloomy sometimes, although not as raw as the first album.

At least two forgotten gems i point here: Pull away/so many times and Walk in the soft rain. Hard rock/proto metal as its best. Much harder than Purple and Zeppelin.

4 and 1/2 stars"
