"Originally concieved as a 'play along album ' this CD just presents the 'master' performances (not the play along backings) Nicely recorded, good sound, hot performances of very 'cool' jazz. The first four tracks are Duke Jordan p Gigi Gryce as Oscar pettiford b Kenny Clark d. All very good performances. Then Tracks 5 to 8 are Hall Overton p Teddy Kotick b Nick Stabulas d and Phil Woods alto, who creates magic, phrase after phrase of faltless sculptural perfection. This is an underated album, whose major fault lies in its brevity and the fact that woods only plays on 4 tracks. It's a gem."
