"Although this record only came out a few years ago, the Dropkick Murphys have gone through a few major changes. Singer Mike McColgan departed for the Boston Fire Department, later to be replaced by Bruiser and Bostonian Al Barr, original guitarist Rick Barton, who was in his late 30's, settled down with his wife, opening two doors for James Lynch and Marc Orrell, and Ryan Foltz and Spicy McHaggis joined the crew. The Murphy's sound has evolved into a more accessible, more modern punk with a bit more traditional Irish flavor. This album is a short and sweet showcase of the original DKM power. I personally favor Mike over Al, not because of talent level, but of the personality he gives the songs he sings. He has a raw, scratchy, yet perfect punk voice. If you're a hardcore DKM fan, you probably already know all about this album. If you are a new fan, check this out. Welcome Mike McColgan into your ears and let loose with this. "Caps and Bottles" is the best thing ever, and so is "Front Seat" .... Not very radio friendly (a good thing), but excellent party music and a nice visit back to the early days of the band. It is too bad the DKM shows I've been to have omitted playing these songs other than "Boys on the Docks"."
