Synopsis

Doyle Lawson's departure from the Country Gentlemen in 1979 set him on a mission. His band, known as "the quartet of bluegrass," highlights classic Southern gospel singing, exploiting those harmonies for their doo-wop-like buoyancy. As Lawson enters his second decade with Quicksilver, he stays true to that gospel road, digging deeper into the quartet tradition and focusing on both the band harmonies and the spectacular lead singing of Barry Scott. Though without the truly moving moments of 1998's Gospel Radio Gems, this collection offers "River of Tears," a new, bittersweet composition by Carl Jackson and Shelby Kennedy. What's missing is stronger, more evocative material: as impeccable as the singing might be on standbys like "The Bible Told Me So," the overall mood of the album relies on the didactic side of gospel, rather than exploring the music's more mysterious and emotionally complex dimensions. --Roy Kasten

(5 out of 5 stars)

"I have been a Doyle Lawson fan since the "Rock My Soul" days and he has recorded a lot of great gospel recordings but this is THE BEST in my book, if you like Blugrass Gospel or Southern Gospel than this is a must have."
The best album from this group!

"Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver has always been a great group. This particular recording is their best. It has a good mixture of songs and the harmonies are superb. I would highly recommend this album to bluegrass gospel lovers. They need to make an entire acapella bluegrass gospel album. Keep up the good work!"
Another big hit in a line of many for Doyle and Quicksilver

"As a fan of Doyle Lawson from hearing him at the beginning of his career to the present, this is just another hit for Doyle and Quicksilver. Although some of the performers on this album are not with Doyle anymore, this is a remarkable group he has and it will go far. I see awards in the future for this group. The harmony of the group is awesome and soul stirring."
