"An impossibly wonderful collection of rarities from a Los Angeles based soul label. I wasn't familiar with any of the artists on this CD, but don't let that stop you - this is classic soul with an intelligent and often slyly humorous bent to the lyrics, as evidenced in songs like "Loving You is Killing Me," "Everybody's Got a Hang Up," "Put Another Dime in the Parking Meter," and the document-of-the-era "What Is Soul," in which voices of all ages attempt to define soul over a smokin' soul backdrop. While Motown and Stax may have dominated the charts in the late 60s, this CD is proof that vital music was still being made elsewhere. Good times."
