My Favorite Donna Fargo Album!
G. Edwards | Gerrardstown, WV United States | 02/07/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I was very young when the album SHAME ON ME came out. I recall purchasing it one summer day at the local Drugfair (a drugstore with a great music department). All of Donna's albums tend to have that emotional twist to them. SHAME ON ME probably has it more than most. The album contains the two huge hits THAT WAS YESTERDAY and DO I LOVE YOU. THAT WAS YESTERDAY is probably one of Donna's best songs. The song says so much. Such is the same for LOVING YOU, her salute to Elvis. Thes two songs clearly show us that Donna is not only a singer, but a wonderful writer as well. One of my favorite tracks is TIME. This song has Donna Fargo written all over it. I was shocked when I saw that she did not write it. I now realize that it was a cover of some rock song from the sixties. Speaking of covers, she does a great job here with HAPPY TOGETHER (another favorite track) and THE RACE IS ON; a song I never cared for until I heard this version. Sitting down and listening to this album is like sitting down with an old friend. If I could've picked one DONNA FARGO album to be put out on CD, SHAME ON ME would've been the one I would've chosen. Collectables Records have done a wonderful job releasing Donna's Warner Bros. material. I have purchased them all.

Also included on this particular CD is the last album she recorded on Warner Bros. Records: FARGO. Oddly enough, I never purchased this album way back then, but I do have the 45 record SEEING IS BELIEVING; this is a unique song which I have always loved. This album had no real hits on it, but some of the tracks are very good. LAND OF COTTON is haunting. I recognized ALL THE WAY from the old Tanya Tucker album DREAMLOVERS. It SHOULD HAVE BEEN EASY is a great track, which I feel would have been a hit, if released. The "different" thing about this album is that Donna did not write any of the songs, her husband did not produce as usual, and therefor, this album just doesn't have that Donna Fargo feeling to it. But it still is not a bad album. I do highly recomend this CD. A must for any Donna Fargo fan!!!"
