CD ReviewsA long, lost treasure EG Clifton | Southern Cali | 04/17/2008 (5 out of 5 stars) "Byrd's work with 125th Street, N.Y.C. and most notably "Words, Sounds, Colors & Shapes" exemplifies the most refined, polished and crisply arranged, sophisticated soul of the early 1980's. This particular project, (with production overseen by the wonderful Isaac Hayes), manages to blend the electronic synthesized funk characteristic of the period with Byrd's signature muted trumpet, gorgeous vocal arrangements and orchestral components. And although similar stylistically to its predecessor "Love Byrd", "Words, Sounds, Colors & Shapes" is the stronger, more profound work in terms of both arrangement and substance."
