Synopsis

Product Description
One long track of sensible & delicate variations... A kind of very long introduction for a short ultimate final indie rock explosion. This is Domotic's latest ep on Active Suspension to date. "Proving without a doubt that big things can indeed come in small packages, Stephane Laporte gives us Smiles Again, a 3? CD containing but one song, under his nom de guerre, Domotic. In a natural progression from the excellent Bye Bye album, this 20-minute song follows a rigorously cinematic trajectory, catching one?s ear from the very beginning with a grinding, atonal digital crunch that floats into an impossibly lush wall of buzzing synthesizers. Further on, numerous elements, from theremin melodies to shortwave signals, drift in and out almost imperceptibly, forming a stunningly gorgeous tapestry. Around the 10-minute mark, piano notes begin to drip in from the corners above a lazy vocal refrain that eventually disappears. Slowly and carefully, tension is built with persistent drones, sine waves, and churning digital effects, until a steadily oscillating melody drifts by and ushers in the massive climax, which appears like a sunburst full of molasses-paced, topped-out drums, twanging guitars and the triumphant return of vocals. Almost frustratingly fleeting, the song?s epic zenith descends into a gentle dénouement, fading out with a bell melody that cues the return to silence. The CD?s sleeve asks that you ?Please play loud and do not manipulate the volume button while listening?, and I could not offer better advice for this criminally underexposed record. Smiles Again is, in short, a masterpiece." Tom Meluch - http://www.atmsphr.org/
