CD Reviews

Very empowering CD
J Werld | Montreal | 12/04/2001

"I first heard the song of Mystic against Atari Teenage Riot played on Killradio. It blew me away. I seen Mystic on MTV and I heard of ATR, so I was pretty excited to hear a song of both. I ordered the CD online and it totally blew me away. Not my expectations were super high, I didn't know what to expect. No Diy Fest had made it up to Montreal and I've never heard of most of the artists on the CD before. Yeah, of course Ani Difranco, but it's the tracks from the underground bands that impress the most, the acoustic and mellow track from Miracle of 86 and the political grand standing of Jello Biafra. The track where Dr Ducky Dolittle has an orgasm was so subversive I couldn't believe they put it on a CD. The whole thing is just really cool. Especially because there are so many female artists on it, that's really important and I thought it was so empowering that the ladies rock even harder on some of these tracks than the men do. I've discovered some great hip hop groups too from listening to this. It's more of a doorway tp discover new things than anything else. I don't usually write reviews but I was really inspired by this CD, definitely worth checking out... at least download tracks on Audiogalaxy or something."
Something for EVERYONE!

"I picked this up at the Warped Tour festival at one of the smaller booths. This CD is a compilation of some of the best you've never heard of, and some of the best veterans of music. Packed with an eclectic mix of music, and political rantings, it has what it takes to fit everyones needs. Starting off with a sound clip of the alleged GW Bush "missing press conference", and ending with Jello Biafra commenting on sexuality and "Dr. Ducky Doolittle"s orgasmic moans. Within the CD is White Collar Crime and their Fight Song, A political punk/jazz/rock anthem. Miracle of 86 gives us an acoustic dose of their smashing emo punk. Space Robot Scientists give a quirky performance of their song, Digital Skinhead, a satire of the Cyber Punk... I'd like to hear more of these new wave / punkers. There's also some hip hop influenced stuff... Ani Difrancos always thought provoking folk rock, and (members if) Atari Teenage Riots electro-hardcore provide some bigger, more established artists... There is no reason that ANYONE should not have this compilation. Buy it now!"
