"so this is finally re-released. Divine Eve was a little known, under-rated, under-appreciated Death/thrash/doom band from Texas, in metals hey-day of the early 90s, when it was still at its peak. i wont go into all the history ( cause i dont know it ) but there is a brief bio in the liner notes. i just wanna say how great & original they were and, listening to this again, remembering what a pity it is that they didnt release more.

this is a compilation of all their released materiel, and aside from the thin sound on one track, it is one of the heaviest, rawest, brutal and crusty catalogs out there.

i guess there were a few bands out there attempting something like this in 93-94, but nobody did it as brutal and raw as Divine Eve.

things kicks off with some raw feedback that degenerates into a grooving riff with a wicked drum beat behind it. great shredded vocals from guitarist/vocalist Xan Hammack on this one. the next song starts out slow and crushing like a Black Sabbath tune and then gives way to a little cow bell and a good mid tempo guitar riff and a stomping beat from the drummer. the 2nd guitarist sings on this one, in a similar style. a nice touch changing up the tempos and vocals, and still sounding like a very focused and cohesive band. there are a lot of songs that have that dynamic, and theyre all drenched in a raw, crusty sound that is not overly technical, and is so brutal compared to all the slick watered down metal bands of the present day.

there are 2 EPs collected here, as well as a Celtic Frost cover, and a track pulled from a Nuclear Blast compilation, that i believe was recorded at the same time as "The Angels Weep". i think 9 tracks in all.

anyway, if you even have a slight interest in this, you should pick it up. especially if you miss the days of old, when metal bands were metal bands, and not the Vans wearing, trendy poser, cry baby pukes that pass for metal now.

if you dig early-Cathedral, Entombed, Celtic Frost , and especially High On Fire, youll love it maaannnnn!!
