CD Reviews

Farewell to a rising genius!
Hiram Gomez Pardo | Valencia, Venezuela | 07/06/2010

"

Two unexpected and tragic accident cars cut off the promising careers of two emerging talents of the keyboard. Dino Ciani in 1974 and Bruce Hungerford in 1977.

Ciani possessed all the requirements to be one of the most prominent Italian pianist of his generations. As a matter of fact, the amazing stardom of Pollini in the international arena would have been absolutely different.

Ciani's skills were under the services of a vision, precise diction and undeniable originality became him a majuscule artist. Blessed and admired by Alfred Cortot, acclaimed by the great audiences his sortilege turned off that fatidic day of 1974.

Fortunately for us, Dino legated us part of his huge talent through these peerless recordings, that evidence by themselves his spelling genius and overwhelming talent.

New favorite . . .

"Regardless of the repertoire, a Dino Ciani recording will constantly amaze the listener. His unique voice, a perfect blend of poetry, passion and virtuosity, can make even the seasoned aficionado take note.

The performances gathered together here are the best of the best when it comes to sound and quality of this great talent. Many times, as you sit and listen to these pieces unfold, Dino's artistry will convince you that you're hearing them anew. Yes, even the old warhorses (Chopin's Etudes, Mozart Sonata K.457 and Beethoven's Diabelli and Eroica Variations) are magically transformed before you.

Words cannot capture the whole of this experience. My only advice, biased as it is, would be to buy this box and savor every morsel at your leisure."
