Burried treasure . . .

"While you're sitting there scratching your collective head trying to figure out who Dino Ciani is, let me tell you a few things about this amazing set. Ciani performs the 32 with a beauty that rarely seems to accompany these marvelous works of art. His dedication and love of these works is evident at every turn. The cleanly articulated lines seem to harken back more to a performance of Bach than that of Beethoven. But he'll win you over with his effortless arpeggios, light as feathers when called for, and his highly charged adagios, where time itself seems frozen in place.

On the down side, however, the sound is not the best that one could hope for, especially given these titanic performances. They were recorded live and in the early 70's, so some of these limitations are - or should be - understandable.

Yeah, I know that you've already got several complete Beethoven cycles. We all do. I've got ten myself, including this set, and I wouldn't be without any of them. I rate this one up there with the Gilels, Arrau and the Anne Fischer.

If you enjoy Beethoven, you've got to check this set out. Hear for yourself what an amazing talent this man was. You won't be sorry."
