Synopsis

Album Description
Rogue records is proud to issue the first australian release of recordings by dimmer, the recording vehicle for new zealand music legend shayne carter (ex-leader of the flying nun label's leading lights straitjacket fits), and unarguably the most critically acclaimed act over the tasman of the past five years. 'It all looks the same at night' is a compilation of tracks from two albums recorded by carter under the dimmer moniker - 'i believe you are a star' (originally released in nz in 2001) and 'you've got to hear the music' (2004). Both records are certified gold sellers back in nz, the latter a multi-award winner at last year's nz music awards (the big ones: best album and best group)! Dimmer's songs, with their sensuously hypnotic grooves and backing hushed vocals from carter that alternate between sweet intimacy and smoky menace, make for one of the great after-hours listening experiences of recent times. Aided by a revolving cast of characters including kiwi chanteuses bic runga and anika moa, carter constructs a set of sparsely funky tracks that straddle the worlds of rock and electronica without falling easily into any camp. The album also features guest appearances from fat freddy's drop, guest producers sjd (southern lights), nick roughan (for good) and andrew 'submariner' morton (feelstyle). 'it all looks the same at night' is a great intro to one of the most natural songwriting talents in this part of the world, and one of the best "rock" albums to turn the lights low to. Rogue. 2006
