CD Reviews

Absolutely great

"i cant think of a way to recommend this enough. one of my favorite albums of the year.its jarring rhythm changes and catchy pop vocals arent really spectacularly original on their own, but theres something about how it all comes together which is really great. ive gotta say i was hooked by the insane catchiness of it (considering its math-rock ish). anyway, sure it doesnt make wild leaps in sound, but after hearing it thru a few more times, the way the songs are done, it doesnt really matter too much. its one of those albums you can put on and then 40 minutes just goes by without you noticing.its a great album for sure, well worth checking out over the latest trend du jour. the only thing holding me back is the fact that it does repeat itself a little. its not a major problem, definitely not enough to justify giving it a miss. anyone who's been waiting to hear someone make an album that sounds like the title "math-pop" might suggest should seriously check this out. for fans of the likes of rumah sakit as well as anyone who thinks their record collection needs a boost of enthusiasm and perkyness without resorting to the power-pop revival.theres a dilute track on the fairly popular If the 20th Century Didnt Exist compilation, thought id just mention it, cause it REALLY doesnt do them justice, compared to what theyve done with this release."

"Warbled vocals on top of jarring, fragile guitar work at first recalls Neutral Milk Hotel in more electric distortion context and then Pavement minus much of the melodic intelligence. But after a poor start, a surprising amount of intricacy amidst all the lo-fi sloppiness begins to take shape, and the band manages to make an impression all their own. Frequent time changes interspersed with druggy sing-alongs create a unique fusion of slacker-indie and math-rock."
