Synopsis

Album Description
2010 release. Devin Copeland, AKA Devin The Dude, is best known for his unique rapping style and his long career. Devin started out as a member of the Odd Squad, later known as the Coughee Brothaz, a group of rappers signed to Rap-A-Lot Records. To date, Copeland has released five solo albums spanning the years 1998-2008. He's also made a number of guest appearances, including a high profile feature on Dr. Dre's "F*** You" in 1999, and De La Soul's "Baby Phat" in 2001. Suite 420 is neatly rolled up with that distinctive Devin flow that his fans have come to love.

CD Reviews

Suite #420? Nope, you won't need to think about that one for

"Devin the Dude makes me laugh. He's one of the coolest, smoothest rappers from the south. But unlike other artists in the rap game, Devin doesn't mind clowning on himself.

I remember cats like Biz Markie and Ol' Dirty Bastard; like the Biz and the BZA, Devin isn't afraid to poke fun at himself. (And that's refreshing.)

Before your buy this joint, check out the music video for "What I Be On." If that's up your alley, the rest of this album will put a smile on your face.

(Devin's back-catalog is worth your time as well. It's timeless rap music.)

If you're a fan, it's a no-brainer: you'll want this album. It's classic Devin the Dude material. The beats are quirky and the lyrics are clever.

Devin: thanks, dude!

Peace."
Mediocre release from Devin....

"I love Devin The Dude. I've been listening to his music for years, and think he is one of the most talented artists in rap today. That's why I'm so bummed that his new CD isn't all that great. Hardly any of the songs are memorable, and it just seems like a lazy release.

His single, "What I Be On", is fantastic. It had me chomping at the bit for this album. Aside from "I Gotta Ho" and "People Talk", there isn't much else to love on this album. Sure, the songs aren't terrible, but they don't have any staying power.

I went to his concert last year, and watching him perform "I Can't Make It Home", "Briar Patch", "Lacville '79" and some of the other classics showed how great his rap career has been. This CD is probably his weakest to date, but I'd have to listen to it a few more times to make sure.

Even with those critiques, Devin still dominates most other MCs. If you're a die hard Devin fan, I recommend picking this up, because you'll find some stuff worth liking. If you are just getting into his music, I recommend buying "To Tha X-Treme" or "Waiting To Inhale". Those have more classic tracks and a larger variety of subject matter.
