CD Reviews

Different packaging from earlier release

"This is great stuff and it's nice to see it available again since it has been out of print for a long time. Since the product description is so minimal, however, you should just know before you order that the reissue version skimps mightily on the packaging compared to the ecstatic peace version from several years back. Again, if all you care about is the music, it is the same, but it's just not as nice of a fetish object as the original."

"Space Baby says hello. Let me explain Space Baby to you.

In the 1970s, Destroy All Monsters were a band who made--well, what do we say here--music, sound, music of sound, sound of music, freak outs, schizophrenia on album.

Anything could happen and usually did--except for songs in any kind of traditional structure. Yells, drums. baby toys, hammers, you mom's blender, a slamming door, a spoon hitting a streched condom--any sound from anywhere could be taken to make up these sound collages, which streched in 1970s style.

This is not the music of Eno or Cluster or even more modern bands like Nurse With Wound. Destroy All Monsters seem to have no consious asthetic other than sound, and they make those sounds as eternal game players, not genre experimenters

You get three discs here of this do it yourself madness, and for those on the outer limits, or trying to get a ticket there, this three CD set is essential

Space Baby says goodbye."
