CD Reviews

Ireland-A Nation Once again!
J. Guild | Toronto,Canada | 12/22/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"To those who enjoy Irish music ,especially with a Rebel flavor;you'll love this uplifting, patriotic and inspiring collection.

The Wolfe Tones are one of,if not the most popular of groups around when it comes to singing and playing Irish Rebel Ballads. The band has played the world for years;but their tradition is being carried on today by one of their most popular members,Derek Warfield. He has put together a band with exceptionally great talent, and leads them in providing a highly entertaining show. He and his band recently performed here in Toronto;and boy what a show!

Dereck has chosen ballads that recall several events over Ireland's long and painful struggle to regain it's freedom and to truly be a Nation once again.

He has included ballads which commemorate the 20th Anniversity of the Hunger Strike of 1981.Despite all the

deaths, heartaches, negotiations, treaties,Peace Talks, etc.,that have gone on since that time; Ireland, still has not realized the Free Nation it will eventually become.

The CD comes with 17 songs, many you will probably be hearing for the first time;but all which you will love. The other wonderful feature is that all the lyrics of the songs are included in an accompying booklet.

My personal favorite is one that conveys the feelings of the Irish people during and after the 13 unarmed protesters were murdered by the British in Derry,on Bloody Sunday,1972;and which led to the recent troubles and the deaths of 10 prisoners in the Hunger Strike of 1981.While peace and freedom is still a struggle,it appears it will eventually come.

This song was a combined effort between Tommy Skelly and Derek Warfield.

GO HOME BRITISH SOLDIERS

Chorus

Go home British soldiers go on home,

Have you got no bloody homes of your own?

For eight hundred years we've fought you without

fear,

And we'll fight you for eight hundred more.

Well leave us be British soldiers, leave us be.

For we're fed up with your lies and tyranny.

It's now your turn to run,for it's us who have the

gun,

Leave us be British soldiers, leave us be.

Chorus

Well if you stay British soldiers,if you stay,

You'll never defeat the IRA,

For the 13 men in Derry, are the last that you will bury,

Take a tip now and go now while you may.

Chorus

Well we're not British,we're not Saxon,we're not

English,

We're Irish and it's proud we are to be.

So to Hell with the Union Jack,we want our country

back,

Peace and justice and to see old Ireland free.

Chorus

We are fighting British soliers for the cause,

We'll never die British soldiers because,

Throughout our history,we were born to be free,

So get out British soldiers leave us be.

Chorus
