CD Reviews

Precious ~ Depeche Mode
Bjorn Viberg | European Union | 10/30/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Precious~ Depeche Mode is probabaly their strongest single since the smash hit enjoy the silence. The lyrics are astounding and Gahans vocals are better then in many years. The keyboard sounds remind me allot of the Violator album and the drum sounds as well. The lyrics are quite personal and discuss Martin Gores current martial difficulties. It definitely sounds like he is speaking from his heart and the pain is almost to much to listen knowing personally how difficult relationships can truly be. The cover art is quite strange but not overly avant-garde. This is a stupendous single and I would not be surprised if this became a chart topping song in many countries and perhaps also in the US."
Simply amazing return for DM !

"I'm going to focus on "Precious" itself and ignore the extra songs here for now. Musically, this song culminates Depeche Mode progression and transformation over the years. If this is a preview of the rest of the album, we're for a solid album for D Mode after a long mix of so-so releases. David's voice sound fresher than ever, his delivery is remarkable. This single is simply a fresh breeze from the recycled garbage music being released these days."
A return to form for d-mode

"This song(Precious) has the flavor of 1990's Violator. "Playing the Angel" the first full album in 4 years harkens back to the "Violator" days with even some inflections of "Music For the Masses". I haven't heard Dave Gahan's voice sound this good since said albums. "John the Revelator" is the stand out cut from the new collection due out October 18. Pick up this song for the B-Side "Free".
