CD Reviews

They should be stars by now....
Pedro A. Urias | Phoenix, Az United States | 03/15/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Wow! That's as appropriate as any remark regarding this second collection of English singles from the English band The Dentists. On Powdered Lobster Fiasco, they perfect the coalescing of mid-60's psychedelia, modern day power power pop and some raved up noise courtesy of pop-punk. Through in second guitarist's Michael Murphy's very English and very sweet voice over songs which don't quite flail yet manage to maintain some sort of positive energy without sounding wimpy in the least. And the guitar interplay is incredible--up and down the scales without once losing a melody. Fantastic. Standouts? Tough choice, since every song here could be repeated ad infinitum sans boredom ever making an appearance. But, the favorites here are "Pocket of Silver", "Charms and the Girl", "Leave Me Alive", "I Can See Your House From Up Here"(with strummed acoustic guitars thrown in for good measure) and the album ending workout "Snapdragon" with it's two minute guitar coda weaving seamlessly in and out of the crunching melody. Get this, now."
