"As the title suggests, these are the original demo tapes recorded in a disc jockey's basement recording studio, by one of the great groups of the "doo wop" era. These demo's led to the Del Vikings being signed to the Fee Bee label (w/ national distribution on Dot Records). Upon the huge success of the group with "Come Go With Me" & "Whispering Bells", these demo's were issued on an LP in '57, on the Luniverse label, with instrumental overdubs added on. But on this CD, you get the original recordings only, without the overdubs. Almost acapella - just some light drumming & guitar behind the voices. The sound quality on the CD is excellent, considering the amateur nature of the original recording situation, and the fact that the Collectables label hasn't always been regarded for great sound quality on their CD's. The singing is fantastic - Clarence Quick deserves more credit as one of the all time great bass singers in R&B (plus he wrote many of the Del Vikings classics). Doo Wop fans need to have this CD!"
