"Sluggish, half-witted drips like Stereophonics and Super Furry Animals would kill for just a smidgeon of the Delays' pop aesthetic and sensibilities.



You can huff and puff all you want about this stuff but what it ultimately boils down to (it always has, however much verbose fun we have on these pages) is intelligent, interesting words married to strong, memorable tunes.



This is why it's so frustrating to see modern musics; neanderthal rock acts, Cowell's sub-Bedlam pathetics, rappers, balladeers etc etc struggling with this straightforwardly simple, bare-basic concept. This can only lead any erstwhile reviewer worth his nicotine and Red Bull to conclude that stupidity levels among these cookie's is uncommonly high.



The Delays make it look so easy - and it probably is. Jangling, soaring guitars, harmonious vocals, smattering of 60's influence - jobs a good 'un.

A trained monkey could do it, (oops, sorry, they are aren't they? New one's looking good Simon...) and make the slop-charts infinitely more entertaining and deep than a hundred James Blunts (there's another idiot - has he never heard of rhyming slang !?) and a thousand Arcade Fire's.



Hah! 'Faded Seaside Glamour' (Delays are SO Graham Greene) is a great album, an open goal for punters. It un-complicates modern pop/rock in a way we haven't heard since the raw truth of the Smiths and early James, and leaves in it's wake the zillion false prophets and Bond-style ego-maniacs currently 'developing' (and therefore owning) modern music. The very idea of 'good' is so troubling in this topsy-turvy pop world that veritable Delays Greg and Aaron (see what I mean? it just gets better and better...) wouldn't get past the X-Factor auditions if they were pointing Uzi's.



'In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king'. Undoubtedly true- the Delays write mini-masterpieces despite the irritating scratching and screaming of those multitudes who, even after spending thousands on laser surgery, will never be able to see."

"At times plays like a more accessible Cocteau Twins, benefiting from clean production, crisp hooks, and memorable underplayed choruses. Some songs cannot seem to nail the graceful songwriting which filters through to at least half of these tracks, but seldom has the current crop of overdone, retro-indie rockers been on display with such sincerity and consistency."
