CD Reviews

LOVE them TENDER
David G. Smith | Fairfax, CA United States | 05/03/2001

"It was June 22, 1991....the day of my wedding. We knew they were coming...but when we walked into the reception place, it was too good to be true...Three acoustic guitars on stands, waiting for the magic to begin. We walked backstage to see them, elderly women in hot pants, identically coiffured, identical in many ways. The Del Rubios met us. This was a day like no other. We first danced to their rendition of Love Me Tender...My wife, in her bridal gown, jumped up and sang Nuetron Dance and walk like an egyptian. They sold t shirts in the lobby. It was a day of heaven.... Now I am to understand heaven holds two of the sisters, as they wait for the trio to be complete. So is this cd good? Is it a joke? Who knows. I only know that this cd represents a moment in my life where love, kitsch, champagne and joy all combined for a fantasy world. The sisters and their amazing arrangements are responsible for one of the defining moments of my life, and to them....I am eternally grateful"
DEFINTITELY FOR THE DINNER PARTIES!

"How campy are these gals?! Enjoy these for its pure camp nature. Don't get me wrong--the triplets are truly talented, especially for the age they were. You may remember them from "Pee Wee's Playhouse." These wild and crazy gals take contemporary pop and rock-n-roll songs and make them their own. Very reminiscent of Mrs. Miller, another campy vocalist from the 60's. But these ladies are from OUR time! Unfortunately, I believe one of them died of cancer a couple of years ago. They have been fixtures at many Pride festivals and on television. Listen to the songs you loved in a whole new way. A definitely conversation starter! Liven any party with these gals. It's almost like having them in your own living room (or car)! They are the original Unplugged, Acoustic Live Performers!"
A treasure in hot pants and go-go boots

"I first saw the gals open for John Waters spoken word tour in 1989. They're dedication to their music and each other was inspiring to someone who was just getting old enough to understand camp and yet not write it off as merely that. Lovely ladies, great covers, and sweet as pie. I will never forget them. LOVE."
