CD Reviews

Good ole older Del

"If it's traditional bluegrass you be wanting then you've come to the right CD. Del is in fine voice here. I prefer the more "modern" songwriting of Cold Hard Facts or The Family, but this one is good too. Best song: High on a Mountain."
Raw Del

"First, this is the wrong song list. This is another Del CD, don't know which one. The actual CD has 14 songs. High On A Mountain, Don't You Call My Name, When I Stop Dreaming, Big Rock In The Road, Now She's Gone, Rambler's Blues, I'm Lonely Tonight, In My Mind To Ramble, Please Come Back Little Darling, Take Me In Chains, How Could I Explain, Big Ball In Boston, Highway Of Sorrow, Fear Not.Now that's cleared up, let me tell you a bit about it. Recorded in 1972, this CD shows an artist in the making. Del's career was, of course, already well under way and he was a consumate singer and performer. But for those who are more familiar with his latest work this will have a somewhat raw sound to it. But it's good. And there are a lot of songs on this album that even the most ardent Bluegrass fan might not be familiar with. So if you like what he's been doing lately, you'll probably enjoy this as well. The recording sound is fantastic and The Dixie Pals play high quality, hard driving bluegrass. And to top it all off, Rounder has taken the effort to include extensive liner notes to fill you in on the history. It's a good 'un."
