Stargazer!!!

"I remember walking into a record store back in the fall of '97 and listening to this 12" that came in a crazy looking green and yellow sleeve and being in total awe after listening to it. It became the first trance-record I ever purchased (FRA-002). Because of that purchase, my expectations of other trance tunes was incredibly high. This record spared me wasting money on crappy trance. There were two tracks on this record, "Stargazer" and "Heaven's Gate."The two EPs for "Stargazer" came out a year or two later (FRA-015 and FRA-016). I didn't bother to pick them up because none of the remixes (even the Deepsky one) was nearly as good as the original version. The remixes tended to explore styles that differed substantially from the original. In the meantime however another tune was released by Deepsky on Fragrant (FRA-012), "Cosmic Dancer." Deepsky had accomplished the daunting task of creating a track that could rival "Stargazer" for being their best work. "Stargazer" and "Cosmic Dancer" are like apples and oranges when it comes to comparing the two - one being more of a journey through space the other being more "worldly", for a lack of a better way to describe it. The Stargazer EP CD is all the tracks from the aforementioned records (FRA-012, FRA-015 and FRA-016) plus a Deepsky remix of Dream Traveler's "Time" (another great tune). The thing that really disappointed me about this CD was the fact that it didn't include "Heaven's Gate", the sister track to "Stargazer". The two tracks complement each other nicely (like many of the `A' and `B' sides of Deepsky related tracks released on Fragrant do). This being the case, it is surprising they didn't include "Heaven's Gate" on the CD. For this reason I am making the following recommendation:1) If you are only buying this CD because you want a copy of the original version of "Stargazer", then get the Dayspring Collective's album, Spark (for "Heaven's Gate" and other tunes...).2) If you must have a copy of either the "Stargazer" remixes or "Cosmic Dancer" (and its remix), then buy this CD.3) If you like Deepsky a lot, then buy both CD's (they only have one track in common, "Stargazer").Both "Stargazer" and "Cosmic Dancer" are excellent tracks. The remixes are good in particular the X-Cabs remix of "Stargazer" and the "Heads of State remix of "Cosmic Dancer", but all the remixes on this CD are overshadowed by the original Deepsky tracks. Don't judge either of these tracks by their first thirty seconds; they really begin to show what they are made of after about two and a half minutes. If you like high-quality and cheese-free progressive trance you will enjoy these tunes a lot. They leave no doubt why the Kinetic label (home of Sasha and Digweed, DJ Dan, Sandra Collins and other top DJs, artists...and unfortunately that guy from MTV who...anyways...) decided to sign Deepsky."

"I acquired this CD only because it happened to be available to me at an insanely cheap price but I would gladly have paid every cent or more of its usual cost after the hours of playing time it has gotten on my stereo. The more I listen to it, the greater complexity seems to be unearthed from this high energy, dynamic EP. This is the CD that gave me an appreciation for the Goa variety of Trance music. I find every remix of Stargazer and the additional tracks to be a must for the EP. It does not at all get repetitious as I had first thought it would. If your looking for an insanely non-stop, danceable, tranceable bunch of tracks get Deepsky, Stargazer!"
