CD Reviews

Deepest Blue is Deeply Moving
M. Harbach | Boca Raton, FL | 10/23/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Music listeners usually frown when worlds collide (it did not do any justice when R. Kelly and Jay-Z collaborated on two forgettable albums), but here the music industry might have stuck gold.

Joel Edwards and Matt Schwartz have truly made a pop masterpiece with the debut of 'Late September.' Thoughtful lyrics written by the duo, accompanied by catchy and moving melodies make this ten track album a prized possession.

Dance fans will rejoice with their two smash hit dance singles, the thumping "Give It Away," and the moody but enchanting "Deepest Blue." But just because the first two singles shifted into overdrive in the dance scenario, doesn't mean this is a cliched attempt following the success of DJ Sammy and D.H.T.

Instead, most of the album focuses on laid back pop tunes with more guitar driven beats than electronica. "Be Still My Heart" starts the CD off with a mellow tone but not before diving into the refreshing "Is It A Sin," sending listeners into musical bliss. The definate highlight of this album has to be the empowering, hair standing up on end "Shooting Star" with its clever lyrics (You're a shooting star that fell without a trace, and you shot so far that you're mind began to race.) and its haunting beat really make this a track that deserved more attention than it received.

The bonus CD filled with remixes wasn't necessary, but for those who gasped at the thought of Deepest Blue going from dance to pop can thump their hearts a flutter with the six minute remixes for their most popular songs "Deepest Blue," "Give It Away," "Shooting Star," and "Is It A Sin."

The CD boasts that Deepest Blue has sold over 70,000 copies in the UK alone. Now they can add one more to that as they have just found another devoted fan who cannot wait until their next album."
