CD Reviews

Brutal soul crushing central coast death
jay darnell | 02/05/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Deeds of Flesh is the most brutal, destroying band EVER! That's right, ever. And with their new album, they've gotten just about as extreme as it can get. No other band that has ever walked the earth has been as destructive and crushing. Mike Hamilton in my opinion is the best double bass drummer ever. Show me a drummer that can do four minute blinding double bass blasts, and you will have the only equal to Mike. After getting a little softer on Path of the Weakening, Deeds is back to their rightful place: back-breaking onslaughts. Couple that with intellegent lyrics (no forty ways to say kill somebody here) and you've got a killer band for sure. And while it's obvious that Deeds disembowls all other bands with their 40 min plus blitzkrieg, repeated listens are advantageous as you can actually pick up melodies amid the destruction. Simply amazing. And to think that these guys came from Los Osos, CA., where metal is virtually non-existent in the local scene. Well, at least our one band is surely the best. Buy this album if you want to know what real metal is!"

"`Mark Of The Legion' was released in 2001 and I believe we'll look back to this record in 10 years time with fondness. This is Technical Brutal Death Metal at it's best, much in the vein of Suffocation, Cryptopsy, Nile and especially Immolation. Deeds of Flesh have made a technically proficient and an absolutely brutal devastating record all the way. This is pure American death metal which has no time for melodic diversions. If you like `Mark Of The Legion' check out their debut record `Inbreeding the Anthropophagi' and `Path Of The Weakening'. Battle music that is not recommended for casual fans of the genre."
