A recent review of "Red Bird Red" in The Washington Post says, "her lovely voice has acquired a soulful edge... The songs Smith wrote with Tom Paxton will receive alot of deserved attention... impressive, touching and eloquent... but the same virtues are apparent when Smith is the sole composer crafting narrative ballads as memorable as 'Niagara Falls'... or newly minted, 'Chevy Impala,' a string band romp that takes advantage of a stellar cast of musicians..."
