CD Reviews

The best melodic hardcore album you've yet to hear
RaisedOnSpitalfield | (South) Medford, Oregon 5-4-1 | 11/20/2008
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Dead and Divine are quite the impressive bunch, and their surprisingly status worthy album The Fanciful is without a doubt one of the best melodic hardcore albums I've listened to in 08. The style here is pretty straight forward; Catchy hooks, clear and audible screaming, tight instrumentals and solid lyrics. BUT, what set D&D apart from many of their peers is that they do all of the above mentioned with a real authenticity. There's no jumping back and forth between the insufferable sounds of deathcore and emo whining, which is something so many in the genre do now in days. Instead, D&D stay focused on maintaining a pure

melodic hardcore sound throughout, and the end result is a much more enjoyable and focused record than many of their genre hopping peers have released.

Aside from the focused sound, D&D also exceed their peers in the emotion catagory. The screaming is straight from the gut, messy but still woven well with the music. At times, we even get some acapella parts, which are a huge treat for us A Static Lullaby and Thursday fans. Lyrically, D&D are much closer to the emotional side of hardcore than the agressive side, which helps to give The Fanciful more depth.

Song for song, the hits keep coming, making The Fanciful a rare complete listen. This CD hasn't left my car since I got it, and I can't say enough good things about Dead and Divine. RIYL: Silverstein, Poison The Well or Thrice."
