'Hard Luck Cafe' is Davis Coen's third consecutive album release recorded at Delta Recording Service located in Como, Mississippi and overseen by locally revered musician and producer Jimbo Mathus. The studio musicians include a slew of hardworking touring and studio players from the North-Mississippi/Memphis area, with the instrumentation vastly ranging on tracks from pedal-steel & mandolin features to organ & hard-driving electric guitar-soaked selections. Similarly Coen's songwriting has an unprecedented range on this album from his heralded flavor of janky white-boy country-blues, such as on the tracks 'Mile After Mile' and 'Anelle', to perhaps a more prominent traditional & contemporary 'Americana' style, such as found in 'AAA Whiskey' and 'Brand New Version of The Same Thing'. This is Davis' eight full-length album to date and the first which features all original compositions.
