Synopsis

Product Description
Recorded live in concert at the Abrons Arts Center, NYC
on October 15, 2009, Saturnian documents master
saxophonist David S. Ware s triumphant return to
performance following his kidney transplant in May 2009.
Ware, in full peak of form, performed three extended
pieces, each one on a different horn. Methone is on the
saxello, and Pallene features the stritch. He has played
these lesser-known members of the saxophone family for
many decades, and recorded with them in the late 80s,
but this was the first time he has performed with them
live on stage. The final piece, Anthe, is performed on
his main axe, the mighty tenor sax.

CD Reviews

Saturnian goes beyond my expectations
Mazungue | USA | 03/12/2010
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This CD was money well spent. As a former guitarist I started to play the saxophone when I heard David S. Ware doing one of his solos. It was so wonderfully raw that blew me off. Getting into the saxophone opened many hidden doors in my music discovery and I have enjoyed a plethora of saxophonists since then but every once in a while I return to the source. That's how I became excited about the upcoming of Saturnian, a new collection of David S. Ware's solos, since I model him on my playing. God, this recordings are wonderful and I can't wait for volume II. I find myself once more in love with the instrument wanting to do more with it. There are three tracks on Saturnian, Methone, Pallene and Anthe, each over 10 minutes of length. Pallene is my favorite and I can't stop listening to it. Thank you David S. Ware, please share more of your solo recordings!"
