CD Reviews

Entrancing melodies and grabbing vocals.

"I first discovered David Fonseca after seeing the music video for his interpretation of 'Rocket Man' from this album and I was hooked by the wonderful combination of melting vocals and a deftly organized melody, a uniquely different version of the Elton John classic. An improvement in my mind, all respect to Sir John, but David brings a new fresh depth to the song.

I quickly became obsessed and dug up everything I could find of his, which sadly was a scant amount and I anxiously awaited the release of Dreams in Colour here in the US. My hopes were high and I was absolutely fulfilled by this collection when I finally got my hands on it. A good number of the songs sound as though you're sitting in the booth with him, especially 'This Wind, Temptation' which reveals his amazingly rough voice in it's Johnny Cash-like depths. My other favorite is 'This Raging Light' which crashes into life in the middle and manages to still end softly as a whisper.

He truly is a hidden gem in the music world, especially when it's so rare to find someone who seems to feel their music so passionately. I feel this album has a bit of something in it for everyone, and though I'm tempted to try and keep this cd selfishly to myself for fear of mind-numbed America being unable to appreciate it, I'm hopeful it will not be so. :)"
The best pop CD you've never heard

"a dear friend turned me onto David's music about 15 months ago. i was sad that i couldn't find this CD in the states, or even in the UK. i obtained a digital copy which i have saved on every pc, laptop, mac and music player in my house. i listen to it at least 5 times a week. then recently i was on Amazon, and bam - there it was.

David has become one of my favourite songwriters. he offers you sweeping, layered songs; stark observations of love and humanity. it is simply brilliant and i don't know why he hasn't seen much success outside Portugal and Spain. maybe 2009 will change that.

highlights include his completely unexpected and refreshing revitalization of the Elton John classic ''Rocket Man'', the very danceable ''Superstars II'' and ''This Wind, Temptation'' which is the best ode to groupies i've ever heard (i may even do a cover version on my next CD). buy this disc, you won't be disappointed. i hope they reissue his first solo record, as well as his work with Silence 4 soon.
