Rosenbergs Leader Grows Up
popomatik | Portland, OR USA | 08/27/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I've been a fan of The Rosenbergs for years (I even own the CD they never list as part of their discography -- that would be "Cruddy CD" -- made in 1996). Each successive release by The Rosebergs has revealed a sensibly over-the-top pop sound fetish. Closely related, in my opinion, to the wonderful pop records Fountains of Wayne have released in relatively the same amount of time and space. But here's the dig... while I LOVE Fountains of Wayne (and all of their tangents), when "Traffic and Weather" was released in early 2007... I found myself bored with their pseudo-smart pot-smoking, mall trolling, cars, teens, dead-end jobs, dead-end places and diners. FOW blissfully push the boundaries of all types of pop, but in such a stalled format that it's not funny. FOW need to grow up. But now we have David Fagin's "solo" CD at our doorstep. In the meantime, any buyer just need beware... The Rosenbergs have grown up and David Fagin takes the cake... the center stage... the cream in your coffee. This CD is a pop-rock dream. So accomplished that it surpasses anything the Honeydogs or Jason Falkner have attempted to do in years. David Fagin's cd is one that owes repeated listens to be fully appreciated. Sure, it's less polished in terms of pop-sensibility than anything The Rosenbergs or FOW have done... but the hooks stick, the rock, rocks and David shines so brightly I'm in awe of this CD and realize it will end up in cut-out bins before it ever sees a glimmer of playtime on any FOX, WB or Family Channel tween/teen television series. Buy this CD. Listen to it several times. And then, tell me that it's not the most classy pop-rock album to hit your stereo in... well, a very, very long time. Traffic and Weather"
