"I purchased this SACD with the expectation it would play in 5.1 surround sound. I've got a Pioneer DVD player, and it handles all kinds of audio from DVDs, including Dolby and DTS, in a variety of flavors and 5.1, 6.1 etc. Since it does all kind of 5.1 surround sound stuff, it should play 5.1 surround audio CD's, right? Wrong...



With audio CD's it's apparently not as talented and plays them in Stereo only. The problem isn't with the CD, it's that my system doesn't support Super Audio CD's. A quick call to the manufacturer with the question of "Does this system suppost Super Audio CD's?" got an equally quick and to the point answer: "No!". Granted, I should have asked this question BEFORE I bough the CD, so it's my own fault. Just wanted to warn others so they don't make the same mistake. Even if your system can play 5.1 surround, it may not handle SACD's.



Listening to the CD in stereo indicates it's a neat system demo CD, with stuff like very low frequency sounds etc. It has quite a few "sound effect" tracks, like a shuttle blast off and subway train. It's something you'd probably only use to show off your system, rather than listen to on a regular basis."

"I purchased this SACD after a long deliberation as it is merely a demo disc and not a music disc. I must say I was pleased and don't regret the buy at all. This is by far the best 5.1 surround demo sacd in the market. All the sound effects are carefully selected by chesky and are produced with great detail and realism. The "storm" track really blew me away and even had my 13 month old son in a frenzy. The realism is mind blowing and I truly recommend this disc to anyone with a 5.1 surround system. The arabian nights and carribean nights tracks were a pleasant surprise and the surround effects were brilliant. Well done chesky!"

"Yes I do own this disc.My system is a 5.1 but does not support the sacd format.DVD-Audio yes.So I purchased the dvd-audio 5.1 surround disc.So reviewer no. 2 should of bought the dvd audio.My friend supports the two formats so I learned from him.I must say the tracks are real.the New York subway track rec at a real subway station sounds amazing when You hear the train coming the rumbling of the tracks astonished me! I have two subwoofers that should tell me! I must warn the bass levels are very powerfully recorded so I do advise anyone who purchases this disc set your volume at a reasonable setting first.Especialy the open introduction of the rocket launching.You hear ripping sounds of it.Theres a Warning in the back.It's an excellent disc.I do recommend it."
