"Strap on your time machine and travel back to New York city 1961. This trio date on the tiny Let's Play Stella lable has all the makings of a classic. Very reminiscent of the best of Bill Evens, Scott LaFaro and Paul Motion, the music is at once logical and and passionate a rare combination indeed. With Chuck Deardorf plucking bells from his upright bass, Dean Hodges giving the brushes a serious lesson in rhthm and Dave Peck leading the way with a piano style rooted in precision but never afraid to play pretty this trio works through standards by Monk, Mal Waldron, Loesser and others. The center piece for my money is a complex version of Alone Together that utilizes elements of tension and release to great effect. These guys can flat out play and have been doing so for over twenty years."
