It ranks with all the great solo piano albums by Monk, Jarrett and Tatum. That may be saying a lot but listening to Burrell you can hear the history of jazz unfold. His version of Giant Steps is a marvel, but all the tracks are great. If you have only heard Burrell in a free jazz setting, or on his albums with David Murray, then listen to what this man is capable of. " |
