MATALLIN | Valencia, Spain | 03/18/2001 (4 out of 5 stars) "Egodram meant an evolution in the sound of Das Ich; from the more gothic 'Die Propheteen' through the moody and slower 'Staub', this new work made Das Ich enter the field of breakbeat industrial; there're still gothic elements here, but every song is more intended to make you dance; and it works. Beginning with the slower 'Egodram', this track introduces us into the changing rhythms of this work; the voice is more agressive than ever, while their chorus are catchier; Best songs? Maybe 'Destillat', 'Firmament' or 'Schwanenschrei'; There's a but, however: I miss some variety, some ballads (there are, but they should be more distributed through the album: the only ballads are the first and the last songs: they're good, anyway. At the end there's an instrumental extra track, which is quite good." However, one must listen to one of Das Ich's full albums to truely appreciate them...and Egodraum is a great place to start. Unlike the more well known mixes of Das Ich's work, their true style is more akin to industrial's origins, with chaotic synths, strings, and raspy distorted vocals (in other words, it's not all high bpm stuff). The german vocals fall right into place with the harsh tone, plus there's just a certain kind of sonic splendor in the music that's hard to put into words. The stand out track here is obviously Destillat, but the whole album shines due to it's high production value and ingenious orchestration. So if you're an industrial fan that has yet to obtain some of Das Ich's material, buy Egodraum now while it's still available." Oh! abuse me, abuse me! Cognitive Dissonance | the 9th Layer of Hell | 12/14/2000 (4 out of 5 stars) "This damn CD rawks. Period, the end.Das Ich has really done it this time. Granted, it's a little more accessible and does have some mainstream tendencies (especially in the rhythm department) ... so what! The beats are solid and naughty in every song, and will break your back if you're not careful. The vocals are straight out of the meat grinder and ready to beat you about the ears. And of course, the usual edge is here: the pseudo-symphonic synths & orchestra style flow.It's difficult to explain just how aggressive Egodram is until you've heard at least a few tracks from it... (my personal faves Destillat and Firmament come to mind immediately) Every song paints the vivid image of chaos erupting around your immediate personal space... This stuff will give you a major adrenaline rush... even if you listen to it in your sleep.As per most of what I've been known to review, this disc isn't for lamers. Das Ich and especially Egodram is a hard, furious, abusive listen. Oh, but the abuse is so great. Buy this CD and let it abuse you too!"
