CD Reviews

Early Heavy Metal From Holland
Marshall Partridge | Charlotte, NC | 02/04/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"If you're tired of hearing, and seeing all the smirks on the faces of da' prideful, arrogant hip-hopsta's of today, this album is a refreshing contrast to all of that complete moronic, mainstream, brainless, foul-stench of American culture. There is no dumb content on this rare album. The band is Dark Wizard, and, in 1985, they had an album entitled "Reign Of Evil." Before that, they recorded a five song EP titled "Devil(')s Victim." It's heavy metal, alright, but has an incomparable uniqueness to it, all its own. The band happens to be from Holland, and being so, I am so glad that they decided to become a band, at the time they did. Each of these songs are very rich, culturally, and reflect their Dutchness, respectively. You would never, could never become even familiar to how great this band is, in a million years, if you only ever listened to the radio. The band is a diamond in the rough, musically. I consider Dark Wizard one of the rare wonders of the world, and their album, a rare piece of true historic value. They are an acquired taste. It is a shame more people have not even heard of them. Although their concept, and lyrical content is "evil," the band truly has unique talent, ethnic diversity, and more or less, well being, as a young, amiable Dutch band. Why they chose evil as their concept, is just a sign of the times, began by the English metal band, Venom."
