"Darby Dizard is a well-known performer in New York, one of those artists who has been able to enter multiple fields of expression, each with a quality assurance that she knows very well what she is about. She has appeared in classical venues in Carnegie Hall, La Fenice in Venice and in Severance Hall in Cleveland and in many important concerts in the jazz and popular music idiom. With that kind of background the success of this CD is not surprising.



Dizard's voice is in the mezzo-soprano range when she settles in to '500 Mile High' and Sergio Mendez' 'So Many Stars', bringing a depth of meaning to the lyrics with her buttery smooth voice. Yet she can just as easily pounce into the upbeat jazz medium in 'Speak Low' or into the wink of comedy delivery in her unique 'The Music Goes Round and Round" segueing into 'I Hear Music'. Or she can just tear your heart out with 'Early Autumn'.



Dizard is backed by a particularly fine group of musicians (piano, guitar, bass, drums) and the man in charge of the arrangements of the gifted Christopher Cherney who also is at the piano here. This is a CD that will please not only those who love jazz, but also those who love to hear the old standards sung with style and beauty by the talented Darby Dizard. Grady Harp, May 07"
