Synopsis
Album Description The Key, (2001) a collaboration of Kevin Danzig & Cat Woolley. Of the three CD's the duo has recorded together, this one is the first under the name "Danzig & Woolley". The evocative power of their music is fueled by warm, impassioned vocals, the crisp rhythmic interplay of Danzig's full bodied guitar with Woolley's bright mandolin, and a vivid lyrical style that delivers tales with twists, coloring them with allegory, humor, and an upbeat spirit. |
CD ReviewsDysfunctional Folk at its Best Ian Whittaker | Mobile, AL | 04/16/2002 (4 out of 5 stars) "I suspect that most sales of Kevin Danzig and Cat Woolley's "The Key" have been to those who were fortunate enough to have heard live, in some coffee house, bar, or other room, their magical a capella rendition of "Halloween In Marblehead." Those buyers got their money's worth for that track alone, a childhood remembrance of discovering the holiday, but the album has a lot more to offer. The harmonies are the thing, bringing a visceral depth to Danzig's lyrics, from stories like "Frustrated Angel," a believable speculation on the next assignment for Clarence (of It's A Wonderful Life), to exultations like "Wyoming," celebrating Yellowstone. The instrumental intro here alone is worth the price of admission. These are NOT necessarily the duo's best songs --- three of my favorites are still available only over the live cup of coffee --- but this is not a bad place to begin a Danzig and Woolley collection."
