One of the Best
John C. Graham | toronto, ontario Canada | 12/22/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Scott Hamilton is probably the best known mainstream tenor player in the world. Harry Allen is another younger American tenor player whose reputation and recorded output aren't too far behind Mr. Hamilton. They've even recorded together on more than one occasion. Like Zoot Sims and Al Cohn before them, Allen and Hamilton play the game well. Sometimes it's hard to tell who is soloing because they can sound so much alike. Which leads me to introduce you to Danny Moss and his playing on this superb cd.

Danny Moss was born in England and lives in Australia. He's been playing his style of tenor for decades. He's as talented and consistant as anyone in the business, plying his trade on the festival circuit and guesting on many recordings. He has a big burly tone, not unlike Coleman Hawkins. It's this powerful and aggressive sound that is so easy to identify, making him unique among his tenor playing peers.

By the time you've listened to the first few cuts on this cd, you know you've stumbled onto a goldmine. Moss plays like there's no tomorrow. There are endlessly inventive and swinging phrases that boast such strong emotion, you'll think you're in tenor heaven...maybe you are.

The rhythm section is unbelieveable. They've been at it for decades as well. John Pearce is on piano, Len Skeat on bass, and Charly Antolini on the drums. They play a major part in making this such an excellent cd.

The quartet play 13 standards in just over 76 minutes. The digital mastering on this studio recording is flawless. The sound is phenomenal.

So, give Scott and Harry a rest and make room for Danny Moss in your collection. If he was an American he'd already be there. Buy the cd and help spread the word. No way in the world will you be disappointed. Guarenteed!"
