CD Reviews

From one "grouchomarxista " to another ..
Peppino | 03/11/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Well, what do I think damas y caballeros?
(in light of the ongoing world situation , I am thinking about this more often still..) I have spoken already (only briefly) on "Danielesepemusica" by my previous Amazon review for the "over the moon" recording "Vite Perdite" .
~ Now something different, as relates to the musical vision of our grande Daniele! WHAT do I think is the role of the artista in relation to"society"? In this case, the musics! Really a question to ask when listening to the many recordings from 'Danielluzzu'.
( For the record, I would like to see all of he recordings avaliable here at Amazon one day soon, hints hints!). So,in humble opinion ~ the artista must rise above, to transcend society. To live "outside" the madness of the world , to transcend the ~here and now~, and the mediocrity rendered by the "fellows for who it hurts to think"... Should not we say,the artista must be outside of the framework that society creates, and provide elements of
surprise, beauty,...drama , laughter, the passion and soaring lyricisms. To tell us what the world should be like , even if it is NOT that way... The artista should take us away from the moments of horror, sadness, fear, and OPRESSION that we experience daily. The artista can demonstrate for all what is possible when we rise above the way society disciplines , or attempts to regiment people.
Let the plagerist artista appear on the NY times bestsellers, the "Manchete " magazine, "Oggi", "Newsweek"... let them win a "Grammy" , ok! We live in a very intense time, information is accelerated, but this information is more and more being obscured in a "blizzard of lies"! (as Dave Frishburg so wonderfully coined this frase.......) The education "system" is unbelievable efficient in making all this information uncomprehesible , or UNDESIREABLE to the "masses",...... the only thing ORWELL(and DeLoyola Brandao) got wrong was the "date"...... I will finish(for now) to say, the artista (ANY idioma) deals with the "issues of the moment" and hopefully will transcend the given "wisdom",
(I am using the word wisdom with winking eye as meaning the "word of the establishment"). To transcend this wisdom to at the very least, provoke a visceral reaction in the subconcious of the "sleeper" that, well~ "something fishy is swimming around the lake", hehe!
"Danielesepemusics" definitely transcend orthodoxy and escape what is handed down from the propaganda machine! (both in musics industry and the socio-political industry)Just speaking only the musical anarchy of the compositions , not even to touch on the words (no matter what language or dialettu they are sung in),
the sounds within are a savory "zuppa d' mare", or a delicious Vatapa', the special blend of "ritmo, estilo e sonido" , performed by a core group of "fratelli musicisti" who play the stars out from the sky on the compositions! The musics caressed.

So, in the spirit of revolutionary predecessors as Hermeto Pascoal, Mingus, Coltrane, Sun Ra, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Cicciu Zappa, Larry Young, Miles , and wonderful contemporaries as Carlo Actis Dato, Pierre Doerge, Pino Minafra, Willem Breuker,ad infinitum, the musics blossom on the vine!
(And not to forget the spirit of Eduardo Galeano, Howard Zinn, Michael Parenti, Eugenio Debs, Sacco e Vanzetti, Malatesta e Fabbri, Ronaldo e Dieghito Maradun!, etc !)10000 stars for this recording, which is comprised of musics from many of the recordings DS has made. De-composed, but not denied, non ci divertiamo adesso, quando lo faremo! salutemu e addiuDon Peppino de la Mancha! (HA!)"
