Better than ever

"Daniel Wylie was better known as the guy who wrote and sang all those wonderful songs on Cosmic Rough Riders "Enjoy the Melodic Sunshine" album. Well now he's out on his own, doing the solo thing and I'm happy to report that he's doing even better than ever. This is his best effort so far. Think of how good "Enjoy the Melodic Sunshine" was then add some more. This is a more complete set of songs and betters anything he's done in the past. Now that takes some action to do that as his past recordings are among the best in anyones book. This time around we have "Snow Pony", this song rocks like the Velvet Under ground's "I'm Waiting For The Man", then we have "Consoling The Girl", this starts off like REM and The Beach Boys and rolls into this crazy groove ending. "The Daily Grind" transports one to London, England on a busy, bustleing day. If powerpop is your thing, there are three beauties right at the start of the records. "Make Love to the World", "Maybe I've Changed" and "Unwind" all rock and perhaps recall The Posies in their "Frosting On The Beater" days. Daniel Also explores some acoustics on this record (as he usually does). The stand out acoustic song is the beautiful "Brighton Beach", I would say it's the English beach he's singing about. It has the feel of a windy day beside the ocean and is lovely. I can't pick faults with the record, in my eyes, there aren't any. Some people might find the lyrics to "Michael the Butterfly" a little soft, but they fit right into the situation of the song. To sum "Ramshackle Beauty" up in a few words, would be to say it is a complete experience of all that is positive and good about music. If you like to hear a good melody and a smart lyric, add in some great harmonies, well this is the album you should buy. I'm already waiting for the next record."
Beautiful Sundaze.

"This record is Wylie's first solo effort but there are four Cosmic Rough Riders records previous to this with him at the helm. Ramshackle Beauty sees him take up where he left off with Enjoy The Melodic Sunshine, his Cosmics breakthrough UK record. Nothing much has changed, just one thing. He's got better. The Beatles, Beach Boys and REM influences are still there and there's the added influence of The Velvet Underground also. What you need to know is, the level of songwriting is high and the melodies are sweet. The harmonies bring to mind the beautiful harmonies he laid all over Enjoy The Melodic Sunshine, if you haven't heard that record, you need to lay your hands on that one also. This time, the stand alone songs are just about all of the album but if I have to choose three, I would choose Snow Pony, Unwind and Consoling The Girl. You can hear samples from the album on his web site. www.danielwylie.com . That's the best way to find out how good this record is. Hear it for yourself then rush out and buy it, or get it on Amazon."
