Daniel Bedingfield's Breakthrough Single
Lesley Aeschliman | Enumclaw, WA | 11/13/2007
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Daniel Bedingfield's "Gotta Get Thru This" is a dance song about longing for someone, and trying to make it through while that person is away. The track uses a lot of vocal processing, but I don't feel that it detracts from the song. The first track on the disc (the "Radio Edit") is the version that was played on the radio.

The second track, labeled as "D'N'D Full Length Version," is actually the "Original Version." It is a longer version of the "Radio Edit," and has a longer introduction; also, from where the "Radio Edit" fades out, the chorus repeats with a variation in the music, then the verse repeats, then the chorus again.

The third track, labeled as "Stella Browne Vocal Mix," is actually the "D'N'D Full Length Version." This mix uses a rather similar bassline to the original, but the background "bom bom bom" vocals are higher up in the mix. Also, this mix constantly cuts out the vocals from "When your love is pouring like the rain..." to where the chorus kicks in. Overall, this is a decent remix, but I wish the lyrics had been left intact.

The final track, the "Stella Browne Vocal Mix" (but labeled as "Original Version" on the disc) uses very different music (no trace of the original bassline can be heard), and the vocals on this mix are not processed. While I like how the mix sounds, I feel it is a little long; I wish an edit of this mix had been put on the single instead.

Even with its faults, I still like this single. I would definitely recommend it to a Daniel Bedingfield collector, and perhaps even to someone who only knows or likes the song "Gotta Get Thru This.""
