"I don't know how many of you there are out there, but I was very eagerly awaiting this new Dandy Warhols release. Their last album 'Come Down' was one of the four best psychedelic (for lack of a better term) albums of 1998, along with Radiohead's heralded 'OK Computer' and the even-less-well-known Tadpoles 'Smoke Ghost' album, and, the least-great of this quartet, 'Ladies and Gentlement We're Floating in Space' by Spiritualized. The Dandys rock, and write great pop songs, without being angry. These are dying arts on today's overly-testosterone driven rock scene. Few bands could rip off Duran Duran and The Jesus and Mary Chain in the same song, as the Dandys did wtih 'Every Day Should be a Holiday.'Anyway, I got off on 'Get Off.' The title track is a mellow, acoustic guitar driven number, that should go straight to number one in a perfect world. I've been listening to it over and over again. It's infectious and uplifting. The layered vocals and 'hoo-haa' vocal punctuations are pure Dandy Warhols. They set a great vibe, like hanging out and having fun with good friends. The b-sides are both darker and more brooding, though the 'White Gold' has kind of a Bo Diddley-ish hook running throughout.I think the Dandy Warhols aren't taken seriously enough. The jokey name, and their attitude leads people to miss the fact that these guys are as good as any guitar-oriented, non rapping metalhead band out there.Godspeed good Dandys."
