CD Reviews

Amazing debut...
Paul Wagner | 11/08/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"If you have the privilege of living in Portland, Oregon you can find Dahlia live every Tuesday at The Ohm. With a sound that somehow blends aspects of jazz, middle eastern, Celtic and trance Dahlia's first album "Emotion Cycles" is sure to please those unfamiliar with their work. On the other hand, if you have seen them live you are left wondering why so much wonderful material was left out. Some of their weaker material appears on the album, and unfortunately the best song is a bonus cut some 9 minutes into track 11. Further, a few of the tracks sound rather flat, and the vocals are lost in the noise. Nonetheless, Keith Schreiner's mixing and Jennifer Folker's beautiful voice make this album one of my favorites for the year. If you listen to trance and groups such as Morcheeba, Mandalay, and Afterlife you will certainly enjoy this album. All others should give it a try regardless, as this album will grow on anybody."
Fall into smooth layers of vocals and ambient

"A friend of mine gave me a demo cd of Dahlia 2 years ago, and a week later he opened for them when they came up to Seattle. The CD was AWESOME, and then I saw them live. She absolutely stopped the bar she was playing in. Nobody wanted to move, think or do anything but let her voice and his vocals pass through you and take you somewhere else... I don't travel to see anyone, and I've travelled 3 times to see this band. The demo was an early cut at what was to become Emotion Cycles. I Love this alblum, and I bet you will too. If you ever have the opportunity, see them live!"
Dahlia love it so much can't wait for the next one

"I came to Alaska from Portland and dearly miss Tuesday nights at Ohm. Jennifer Folker (vocals), and Keith (everything else), are awsome live and great people too! I love this cd so much I gave it away as christmas presents to those who haven't experienced Dahlia before. Jennifer's voice is amazing and Keith's talent keeps stretching. They are an amazing duo. If you want a little more of Jennifer try, Govinda-Echoes of Eden. She did a track with this guy and he is also an amazing artist. Hope you enjoy it once you've got it (you will)!"
