New York's D&D Studios has been to hip-hop's sound what Kingston's Studio One was to reggae's. Sonic playground for producers like DJ Premier and the Beatminerz, it's been the source of some of hip-hop's most classic beats in the '90s. In commemoration, this mix album (put together adequately, but unimpressively, by DJ Skribble) covers some of D&D's greatest tracks, including Biggie's "Unbelievable," Group Home's "Supa Star," Black Moon's "Who Got the Props," and Nas's "N.Y. State of Mind." Devout underground fans won't find much new here, but there's little that will disappoint, either. --Oliver Wang
