CD Reviews

Pleased but just one song from Way 2 Fonky
Dorrie Wheeler | 08/08/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I love Quik and own all of his album. However, there is something about "The Best of DJ Quik-Da Finale" which kind of bothers me. The CD includes 4 1/2 (almost 5 songs the version of Quik is the Name is short) songs from Quik is the Name and 5 songs from "Rhythmalsim." The more I listen to this CD, I forget I am listening to a "best of." There are just too many songs from certain albums. Why is there only one song from "Way 2 Fonky?" I'm sure Quik had input on the tracks included so maybe he didn't think that was his best work but one would imagine at least to find the released singles on a "best of." The only song from "Way 2 Fonky" on the set is "Jus Lyke Compton."

The set also doesn't include any of the Quik "love" songs like "Itz Your Fantasy," or " I Got That Feelin'." I found myself getting really heated at times because with 5 songs from Rhythmalism I really felt I was listening to the whole album again.

I wish they would have cut one of the "Rhymalism" songs and added the song "Well" from Balance and Options. I'm a big Quik fan, for 15 years now almost I guess so that is why I am so critical. It's a great set and a Quik fan should be pleased. I dont know what is the different between the Best of DJ Quik and the Best of DJ Quik-Da Finale.

Now I will tell you what they should have put on here-"Trust No" by Penthouse Playas Clique. It's a great set. The booklet includes a nice bio and a track listing"
