Synopsis

Album Description
In May 2002 THE CYNICS hooked up with ace producer/R&R spiritual counselor TIm Kerr in Austin, TX. to record their first studio album in 7 years and most likely their best one to date! Recorded at Sweat Box Studios with Mike Vasquez and Bryan Nelson engineering, the tracks were laid down in just three days and they capture the energy and intensity of the Cynics live performances. The songs cover quite a dynamic range -- from howling, fuzzed-out punkers to mid-tempo melodic folk-rock nuggets to pure psych-garage mayhem. All with the ever-present Gretsch guitar sound of Gregg Kostelich and the gnarly great in-your-face vocals of Michael Kastelic. Completing the sound is Tom Hohn's prime beat bashing and Smith Hutching's solid bass.

CD Reviews

Don't call it a comeback!!
11/02/2003
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Pittsburgh's Cynics were banging out fuzz-drenched garage rock while The Hives, Mooney Suzuki, etc were in short pants. It's been a while, but Mike and Greg are back (with a new rhythm section) unleashing their best work since the mind-blowing "Rock And Roll" lp. What's not to love. Sneering vocals, speaker-shredding guitar and a fine combination of garage stompers, Kinks like pop and a smidgen of psychedelia. Forget about the Swedish invasion and slap this baby on. It's like a newly un-earthed volume of Nuggets."
Great retro/garage sound

"Pure and simple rock 'n roll. Lots of fun and lots of energy. Great mix of near punk sounding songs and late 60's style (NOT psychedelia. I'm going back and buying some of their earlier stuff, now, but, this would seem to be a great introduction to a band deserving of more attention."
