Synopsis

Album Description
Winners of this years Best Band Award at the BBC Jazz Awards, Tom Cawley's Curios release their much-anticipated second album , following on from last year's critically-acclaimed and award-nominated debut, HIDDEN (JITCD0744). Curios are led by multi award-winning pianist and composer Tom Cawley, known also as the keyboard player with Acoustic Ladyland and as a co-writer with Gwyneth Herbert. Over the last couple of years Curios have toured the country, recorded radio sessions and appeared on the front cover of the jazz press, establishing them as one of the country's foremost modern jazz groups. This has led to appearances at the Royal Festival Hall, the Barbican and Ronnie Scott's jazz club. Beautiful, melodic, fiery and serene original music from a band at the peak of their powers. Tom Cawley (piano). A multiple award-winning pianist whose career has so far seen him lead bands at the Blue Note (New York) and perform at clubs and festivals all over the world. Cawley is also a member of Acoustic Ladyland and Charlie Watts' Tentet , as well as playing and recording with many of the UK's top jazz artists. He is also Professor of Jazz Piano and Aural & Transcription Skills at the Royal Academy of Music. Sam Burgess (bass). The current Ronnie Scott's bassist, Burgess is one of London's most eclectic and in-demand musicians, having recorded and toured with not only the cream of the jazz circuit, but also with artists such as Robbie Williams and on many film soundtracks. Joshua Blackmore (drums). At just 22 years of age, Blackmore is a phenomenal talent whose career is only beginning. Described almost everywhere he goes as a 'wunderkind'. "Just when you think EST, or Brad Mehidau, or the Bad Plus might have taken the piano trio as far as it can go, another keyboard talent opens another door. Tom Cawley had done just that with Curios." - John Fordham (Jazz UK)
